Man who stabbed court worker remanded into pre-trial custody
A 37-year-old Iranian national charged with stabbing a court clerk at Athens's main courthouse complex on Friday was remanded into pre-trial custody on Tuesday.

The man refused legal counsel when he responded to charges of attempted manslaughter. According to sources, he said that he assaulted the 36-year-old woman, who worked as a secretary to a magistrate at the Evelpidon Street courthouses, because he felt wronged.

He said he used a makeshift knife that he managed to sneak past security at the entrance to the court complex to stab the court worker three times. She suffered serious, though not life-threatening injuries.

According to sources, the assailant is a convict who was given conditional release last month from a prison on the island of Chios where he had been serving a 15-month term on gun offenses. He had been visiting the Athens court complex to collect a document with details of the terms of his release, sources said.
