The Pedion tou Areos park in central Athens will close its gates to the public at night, following a decision by the Attica Regional Authority late on Tuesday.

The decision was expected to come into effect on Wednesday. The park’s opening hours will be 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.

According to Attica Governor Yiannis Sgouros, the installation of fences around the park and the decision to lock the area at night was aimed at “citizens being able enjoy a beautiful and safe park throughout the day.”
