Police on Saturday were conducting forensic tests on a number of weapons retrieved from the bottom of the sea off the coast of Kynouria, a port town in the Peloponnesian region of Arcadia.

The weapons cache was first spotted on Friday by a local resident who notified the Coast Guard.
Among the items that were brought to the surface with the help of a private diver were a Lanchester MK1 submachine gun, a .357 Magnum revolver and different types of bullets.
Authorities want to determine where the weapons came from and whether they have been used in a crime.
