Greece will have double elections on May 25, Interior Minister Yiannis Michelakis revealed on Wednesday, telling Mega TV this would be when the second round of local polls and European Parliament elections will be held.

The first round of local polls will be held on May 18. Michelakis added that the electoral law for the local vote would not change. He had previously suggested the rules would change so mayors would be elected from the first round of voting if they receive 42 percent or more of the ballots, rather than face a runoff against the second-placed candidate.

SYRIZA said that the first round of the local elections should coincide with the European Parliament vote and that the second round should be a week later.
