Mitsotakis added that 758 of those positions would be filled by former members of the capital’s now defunct municipal police force who have been put into a civil service mobility scheme. The troika-imposed plan foresees forced transfers and layoffs as part of a broader effort to cut waste in the Greek civil service.
In a related development, the union representing local authority workers, known by its acronym POE-OTA, is to appeal to the Council of State, the country’s highest administrative court, against the mobility scheme.
