Former minister Michalis Liapis was arrested by traffic police in the eastern Attica town of Loutsa on Tuesday after being found to be driving a car with false license plates, Skai reported.

The former New Democracy minister for public transport and culture allegedly replaced the license plates of his SUV with a false set in order to avoid paying road tax, according to initial media reports, which suggested that he was also driving without a license.

He is being questioned by traffic police at the Aghia Paraskevi precinct, north of Athens.
