Thirteen years after a judicial investigation into a stock market bubble began, the case was dropped on Monday after judges at Athens’s criminal appeals court decided that there was not enough evidence to convict 42 suspects of manipulating share prices and causing investors to lose millions in the late 1990s.

The suspects’ trial began on April 15 but numerous legal efforts had proceeded it, starting with the initial charges issued by prosecutor Dimitris Asprogerakas in 2000.

At one stage, the investigation was assigned to magistrate Constantina Bourboulia but she was then sentenced to 12 years in prison for abuse of power.
