Georgiadis accepts resignation of OKANA chief

Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis has accepted the resignation of the head of the head of the state-run Organization Against Drugs (OKANA), which runs Greece’s biggest rehabilitation program for drug users.

Meni Malliori's resignation came in the wake of allegations by Georgiadis's deputy, Zeta Makri, who claimed that an investigation into OKANA revealed an 8.4-million-euro shortfall.

A special investigator has launched a probe into the agency's finances.

The deputy health minister also accused OKANA of breaching safety procedures in administering substitute drugs to addicts.

Malliori has denied the allegations.

It was not known Thursday who will replace Malliori at the helm of the organization.
