Two men, aged 42 and 53, have been arrested in Athens for using forged banknotes to buy products from hair salons.

One was arrested on Wednesday in Piraeus after he had bought 18 euros’ worth of products using a fake 50-euro note. A few hours later his alleged accomplice was arrested in Neos Cosmos.

The 52-year-old, arrested in Piraeus, was found to be in possession of 22 forged 50-euro notes as well as a small amount of drugs. Police said that the two men are believed to have fooled 73 hair salons in Athens into accepting fake banknotes.

There are five convictions, totaling 14-and-a-half years in jail, outstanding against the 42-year-old for a range of offenses that include tax evasion and debts to the state.
