The body of a man was found floating in the sea near Aghios Nikolaos in Lasithi, Crete, on Saturday.

The corpse, which was in an advanced state of decay, was pulled out of the water by coast guard officers.

An autopsy was due to be carried out to establish the cause of death, which is thought to be drowning.

Authorities were not in a position to confirm or deny that the body was that of a 22-year-old local who went missing on December 7.
