The Greek merchant shipping fleet fell 1.1 pct in volume in January this year, compared with the same month in 2010, after an increase of 1.5 pct recorded in the previous 12-month period, Hellenic Statistical Authority said on Friday.

The statistics service, in a report, said a total of 2,098 vessels were registered. The report also said that the capacity of the Greek merchant shipping fleet grew 4.0 pct in January, after a 5.2 pct increase recorded in January 2010, to 43,358,556 dwt.
