No agreement was reached during Wednesday’s meeting between Agriculture Minister Athanasios Tsaftaris and protesting farmers, who vowed to escalate their action.

“We won’t sit on our hands,” said Vangelis Boutas, a unionist from Karditsa, central Greece, warning that roadblocks would be set up as of Monday.

Unionists are demanding that farmers with an annual turnover of up to 40,000 euros should be exempt from a regulation forcing them to keep account books.

Also, they are asking for an increase in their tax-free threshold and for measures to help them settle overdue debts.
