It was revealed on Thursday that the outer shell of buildings at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center should be completed by July 28.

The planting of trees and shrubs on the 17-hectare site is due to begin in May. Around 1,100 construction workers are involved in the 566-million-euro project.

The site in southern Athens is due to be finished in 2016 and will house a new opera house and the National Library. Work to build the roof on the opera house is due to begin in September.

It will later be topped with photovoltaic panels that will cover an area of 10,000 sq.m.
