A two-year-old boy diagnosed with diabetic ketoacidosis, a potentially life-threatening complication stemming from diabetes, was airlifted from the Cycladic island of Myconos early on Wednesday.

A Greek Air Force C-130 plane took the toddler to the Elefsina military airbase before a Hellenic National Center for Emergency Assistance (EKAB) ambulance transferred him to an Athens hospital.

A request by EKAB regarding the airlift was registered late on Tuesday, but strong winds over the island did not allow the miliary plane to land during the night.
