Greece’s Financial Crimes Unit (SDOE) has imposed fines totaling 215 million euros for tax violations over the past few months including on hundreds of taxpayers from the so-called Lagarde list, a top official at the agency told Skai on Friday.

Among those on the list are 500 of the 2,062 names on the list of wealthy Greek taxpayers with Swiss bank accounts including a well-known dentist based in the affluent southern Athens suburb of Voula who is alleged to owe 13 million euros in taxes.

Floratos said checks on the remaining 1,562 of the names on the list are expected to have been completed by September and that the results of those inspections will be sent to financial prosecutors. He added that a large portion of the fines leveled against debtors has been paid, without citing a figure.

Thousands of cases relating to several lists of possible tax evaders are currently under investigation by SDOE and Greece’s financial prosecutors.
