Among the complaints heard by staffers at the “bureaus for support against discrimination against non-EU citizens” was one from a man who said he was physically abused by a police officer at the central Athens Omonia precinct.
Another said he was refused dessert at a soup kitchen on the grounds that he isn’t Greek, while there were may claims of workplace abuse. The program was launched on May 27 and has EU funding through June. Organizers said they would try to continue their work with private funds.
