Police on Tuesday published the photographs of a 31-year-old man and his 30-year-old wife who are being accused of conning at least a dozen elderly residents in different parts of Athens out of an estimated total of more than 130,000 euros.

The photographs of Triantafyllos Floros and Styliani nee Stergiopoulou were published as part of an appeal for information on the couple, and particularly on the female suspect who is still at large.

Police arrested Floros after a 77-year-old woman called the authorities and reported that the pair had tried to push their way into her home when she refused to let them in.

They are believed to have posed as accountants or tax officials demanding cash to settle a tax matter pertaining to the victim or, more frequently, to one of their relatives.
