A 35-year-old man who was being treated in an intensive care unit at the general hospital of Larissa, central Greece, for gunshot injuries suffered at christening last Sunday, died on Friday.

The man, who was the christened child’s godfather, was injured when shots were fired in the air during the celebration.
An investigation was under way to determine the cause of the accident, while police officers had retrieved the handgun with which the victim was shot.
Firing guns into the air is fairly common practice in several parts of Greece at festive occasions.
