Greece dispatched a navy frigate to Tripoli on Wednesday after the Foreign Ministry decided to evacuate all personnel from its embassy in the Libyan capital as fighting between rival militias escalated.
The ministry decided to send the ship as Tripoli airport is the scene of gun battles and driving to Tunisia is deemed too dangerous. It is expected that the embassy staff will board the frigate on Thursday. Some 80 Greeks who also live in Libya have been informed that they can board the vessel as well.
Other countries, such as China, have also requested that the Greek vessel help its citizens leave Libya. Hundreds of Chinese workers have already been evacuated from the war-torn country.
