Parliament rejected an appeal on Thursday by opposition parties to have some parts of a forestry bill deemed unconstitutional and removed from the legislation package.

The coalition majority voted against the proposal brought by SYRIZA and Independent Greeks, who argued that four articles should be removed from the bill.

The new legislation allows the building of housing developments, monasteries and motocross circuits, among other things.

According to the would-be law, up to 10 percent of an area of forestland stretching to more than 50 hectares could be used for building holiday homes.
