Velvento suspects likely won’t face terrorist charges

The public prosecutor in the trial of six anarchists accused of carrying out an armed bank robbery in Velvento, northern Greece, in February 2013 has recommended that they be found guilty of a range of criminal charges but not of being terrorists.

Yiannis Michailidis, Nikos Romanos, Foivos Harisis Poulos, Andreas Bourzoukos, Anargyros Dalios and Dimitris Politis deny that they are members of the urban guerrilla group Conspiracy of the Cells of Fire.

Jailed members of the group also deny that the six suspects were part of their organization.

Apart from being accused of being part of a terrorist group, they face a number of other charges that relate to the armed robbery, including illegal use of weapons, but the prosecutor has recommended that judges take into account that the alleged robbers did not harm any of the people they came into contact with during the raid and that lives were not put in danger.
