DIMAR dissenters meet to decide next move

Dissenting members of the Democratic Left (DIMAR) party were meeting in Athens Monday to decide their next move.

There is increasing speculation that 28 members of the social democratic party's central committee, led by former secretary Spyros Lykoudis, will abandon the former coalition partner led by Fotis Kouvelis.

“Our staying part of the party is at stake, but we are not going to announce a decision today,” Lykoudis told Skai who has already ruled out the possibility of attending DIMAR's upcoming convention.

Kouvelis's decision to quit the conservative-led government in June 2013, a year after joining it, triggered a gradual dismantling of DIMAR. The departure was followed by a disastrous performance in the European Parliament elections in May, when DIMAR gained just 1.2 percent.

Speaking to Skai, Lykoudis denied reports that he or other DIMAR members were close to joining the centrist Potami party led by former journalist Stavros Theodorakis.
