Two mobile units that provide irregular migrants arriving on Samos and Lesvos with basic assistance have helped more than 4,900 people since they began operating 10 months ago.
The “first reception” units are able to provide basic medical and psychological help to the immigrants, as well as notifying them about their rights and providing them with clothes and toiletries.
They are also able to notify health officials if further medical treatment is required. Each unit has eight to 10 people.
The Public Order Ministry wants to create another two such units by the end of 2016.
