Fyssas rally demonstrators face prosecutor after clashes

Sixty-four people arrested in Keratsini, a suburb of Piraeus, on Thursday, following clashes with police during an anti-racist march marking the one-year anniversary of the murder of rapper Pavlos Fyssas by self-professed Golden Dawn member Giorgos Roupakias, appeared in a Piraeus court on Friday on charges of disturbing the peace, damaging public property and possessing explosives.

According to the case file, one of the defendants was accused of hurling a firebomb at a local Citizens’ Service Center (KEP). Thousands took part in the rally marking a year since the fatal stabbing of the hip-hop artist whose stage name was Killah P.

The murder triggered a large-scale probe into the operations of the ultra-nationalist party with a trial expected to commence later this year.

Among those being charged in the case is party leader Nikos Michaloliakos, currently in pretrial custody.
