Woman injured in Petrou Ralli crash dies, bringing toll to three

A 24-year-old woman who suffered extensive injuries when a car slammed into her and other pedestrians on central Athens’s Petrou Ralli Street on Wednesday, has died, the Nikaia General Hospital confirmed on Thursday morning.

A 24-year-old woman who suffered extensive injuries when a car slammed into her and other pedestrians on central Athens’s Petrou Ralli Street on Wednesday, has died, the Nikaia General Hospital confirmed on Thursday morning.

The woman’s death brings the total toll from the incident to three. A 30-year-old Albanian mother of two and a 23-year-old police officer serving at the Aliens’ Bureau nearby were also killed when a 27-year-old Albanian man driving a Smart car ran a red a light and lost control of his vehicle, plowing into a group of pedestrians standing on the sidewalk of the Piraeus-bound lane.

The 27-year-old driver of the car as well as a 61-year-old Egyptian man suffered minor injuries and are being treated at Piraeus’s Tzaneio Hospital.
