Greek President Karolos Papoulias is expected to arrive at the northern port city of Thessaloniki on Monday, ahead of the October 28 annual military parade which marks the country’s entry into the Second World War in 1940, also known as “Ochi Day.”

President Papoulias is scheduled to take part in a wreath-laying ceremony on Tuesday morning, before presiding over the military parade which is scheduled to commence at 11 a.m. and will be followed by an acrobatic show performed by a Greek Air Force F16.
Defense Minister and newly appointed European Commissioner Dimitris Avramopoulos was expected to represent the government in Tuesday’s parade. Meanwhile, several municipalities were not planning to erect special stands for dignitaries set to attend local school parades on Tuesday, while in Thessaloniki, school pupils are parading on Monday.
