Second Psomiadis trial for embezzlement postponed to next year

An Athens appeals court on Friday accepted a request by the lawyers representing businessman Makis Psomiadis, a former nightclub owner and newspaper publisher, for a postponement to the latter's trial on charges of embezzling from the funds of Athens soccer team AEK in the period between 2001 and 2003. The new trial date has been set for April 29, 2015.

Psomiadis was sentenced to 10 years in jail last April for embezzling 21 million euros from AEK during his stint as the soccer club's president. But the new trial relates to an additional case of alleged embezzlement.

The court decided to postpone the second trial because a decision by authorities in Skopje to extradite Psomiadis to Greece earlier this year did not include a reference to the new allegations of embezzlement.
