The leader of the right-wing Popular Orthodox Rally (LAOS) is expected to resign in the coming days amid the launch of a probe into press claims that 1.65 million euros was paid into two offshore firms linked to him and his relatives.
The former New Democracy MP, who participated in a coalition government in 2011-12, denied any knowledge of the people mentioned in the report in Real News though he did not deny a link to the offshore firms.
The report alleges that payments were made by two businessmen acting as middlemen in the sale of Super Puma helicopters to Greek authorities. A probe is expected to focus on Karatzaferis’s source of wealth (“pothen esches”) forms.
