An Athens court on Tuesday sentenced former Defense Minister Yiannos Papantoniou and his wife Stavroula Kourakou to four years in prison for submitting inaccurate source of wealth (“pothen esches”) forms but they were allowed to pay off their terms for 14,560 euros each, pending appeal.

The conviction related to pothen esches forms submitted by the pair in 2009. The discrepancy between their stated and actual assets was spotted after Kourakou’s name appeared on the so-called Lagarde list of Greeks with Swiss bank accounts.

The pair are to face a fresh trial on Thursday for declarations made in 2008. Meanwhile a judicial council is to rule on whether the couple should be indicted in connection with their pothen esches claims for 2010.
