Prosecutor to rule on whether GD deputies can vote

A prosecutor responsible for dealing with matters relating to Korydallos Prison is due to decide early this week if the seven Golden Dawn MPs being held in pre-trial custody at the facility should be allowed to vote in the presidential elections.

Prosecutor Nikolas Poimenidis denied the seven far-right lawmakers the right to take part in the recent vote of confidence called by the government but legal experts say this should not be seen as a precedent. So far the MPs have only been allowed out of prison to attend court cases and votes in Parliament for the lifting of their immunity.

A prosecutor in Nafplio, where former Golden Dawn MP Stathis Boukouras is being held, will decide whether the lawmaker, now an independent, will be allowed to vote in the presidential ballots, the first of which is on Wednesday.
