Ahead of European Economic and Monetary Affairs Commissioner Pierre Moscovici’s visit to Athens on Monday, Brussels has insisted that it is not entertaining any scenarios about a possible Greek exit from the eurozone.
“The only option that the Commission is working for is to keep Greece in the eurozone,” said European Commission spokeswoman Mina Andreeva, when questioned about a possible change of government in Greece.
“The commitment of this European Commission to the efforts of the Greek authorities and Greek people have been made very clear,” she added.
Last week the Commission hailed the nomination of ex-EU commissioner Stavros Dimas as the government’s candidate for president.
