Greek bar associations rule to keep up lawyers’ strike

The heads of Greece’s bar associations on Monday decided that the country’s lawyers will continue an open-ended strike in protest at a draft law changing the criminal code after the ratification of the bill was delayed due to Parliamentary elections this month for a new president of the republic.

Lawyers have been on strike since the start of the month, demanding that the contentious bill be withdrawn, causing numerous delays in court proceedings and other cases. Meanwhile, 12 lawyers, a law firm and two private companies have filed a suit with the Council of State for the bar associations’ decision to be rendered null and void.
