Residents of Amyntaio on Friday announced their decision to block the passage of a goods train going through their town in protest against the rail company's decision to scrap the passenger services between Amyntaio and the nearby cities of Edessa and Florina. Amyntaio Mayor Makis Iosifidis stressed that the town was tired of waiting for the railway company to keep promises to restore the passenger service and had decided to obstruct the passage of highly profitable freight services to the area.
The mayor stressed that the cost of the passenger service should be offset against the profits of the freight service, showing that the line was not running at a loss.
