Prime Minister George Papandreou had a scheduled meeting at the Maximos Mansion government headquarters in Athens on Friday with Archbishop of Athens and All Greece and a Church of Greece Holy Synod delegation. Papandreou underlined the importance of state-Church cooperation in this difficult time for the country, stressing however, that each side has its own special role.
“Greece should enter a different course if we wish to produce solutions that will bring hope and optimism,” he added.
On his part, Archbishop Ieronymos agreed with the comments made by the premier and stressed that “the people agonise over the future and want the crisis to be overcome. We should make decisions that will bring relief to the people.”
