Prime Minister George Papandreou on Friday expressed grief and support to the families of the victims in the Marfin Bank blaze, which erupted on May 5, 2010 during street protest in Athens against austerity measures. Speaking in Parliament, Papandreou said “a year ago three young people lost their lives. This day of brutality will never be forgotten. It appears that police investigation is almost completed even though the pain for the families of the victims is incurable”.

Three or more masked suspects broke the bank branch's glass storefront before throwing firebombs inside. The self-styled anarchist suspects had infiltrated the protest march as it passed the bank.
