The Culture and Tourism ministry's political leadership expressed profound sadness over the death of British travel literature writer Patrick Leigh Fermor. The message of condolences stresses among other things that "Patrick Leigh Fermor loved Greece like his second country. From the time of the Second World War, when he participated actively in the struggle of the rebels in Crete against the German conquerors until today when his death, Fermor did not stop for even a moment to inspire and move with his literary talent, his moral integrity, his love for life, his struggles for humanitarian values. Greece, the clountry that he chose to live and create, bids farewell today to one of the most notable ambassadors of its culture all over the world."
