Trade unions appear determined to escalate protests against the medium-term programme sponsored by the government. The country’s two largest trade union umbrella groups, GSEE, which represents the private sector as well as a handful of state-run utilities, and the civil servants’ ADEDY have already called for a nationwide 24-hour strike on Wednesday, June 15.
In a joint meeting on Friday, the executive committees of GSEE and ADEDY decided to hold mobilizations across the country on June 21, the Pan-European trade unions action day. Industrial action and other mobilisations are planned to take place during the discussion and vote of the government-sponsored medium-term programme in parliament.
