Police in Rethymno, on the island of Crete, on Tuesday announced they have arrested two nationals from India for the rape and mugging of a 29-year-old tourist guide from Germany reported on Sunday.
According to the woman, she was jogging along Platania beach when two men immoblised her, tied her up hand and foot and raped her. Afterwards, she said, the two assailants took her cell phone and 30 euros in cash.
The tour guide managed to reach a nearby taverna, from where she alerted police who rushed to the scene.
Investigations by Rethymno security police led them to the two Indians, who were arrested and are being interrogated.
