The Ionian Islands Technical College (TEI) is undertaking an innovative educational activity addressed to executives, professionals and scientists aiming to familiarise them on matters of management of the Mediterranean marine environment, with the focus on conserving biodiversity and sustainable development.
The initiative, part of the TEI's activities aimed at disseminating scientific knowledge to society and at highlighting the unique characteristics of the local society and nature, is organised by the educational institution's Summer School on Zakynthos island, and is themed "Dynamic and Management of the Marine Environment", running from 18 to 29 July.
The Summer School is organised by the TEI's department of Environmental and Ecological Technology, and is addressed to executives, professionals and scientists involved in marine environment issues.
During the two-week course, with six-hour daily classes, the participants will be brought into contact with the dynamic issues developing in the marine (oceanographic) and atmospheric environment in the Mediterranean Basin and their biological impact.
Emphasis will be on matters of management of the Mediterranean marine environment, and especially coastal areas, with the focus on protecting biodiversity and sustainable development.
The courses will focus on two axes: Dynamic of the Mediterranean area (from an oceanographic and atmospheric view) and its impact on biodiversity and quality of the marine environment; and Methods of Management of the human impact on the marine environment, with focus on the coastal areas.
