The Greek government is planning, in the medium-term, a reorganisation of the ports of Attica prefecture, northern Greece, and the Aegean and Ionian islands, finance minister Evangelos Venizelos said in a document submitted to parliament.
The document was tabled in response to a question tabled by late Communist Party of Greece (KKE) MP Angelos Tzekis and KKE MPs Yiannis Ziogas and Sophia Kalantidou.
In the document, Venizelos informed parliament that the state aims to make use of private sector knowhow and capital to ensure the viability of the economic development of the country's ports on a long-term basis.
In order to ensure the principles of transparency and equal treatment, and for selection of the optimum choices, the state was currently in the process of selecting financial, legal and technical consultants who will conduct all the required procedures to materialise the actions "aiming at maximising the benefit to the state and attracting and creating investments".
