A telephone conversation was held on Friday between the Foreign Ministers of Greece and Russia Stavros Lambrinidis and Sergey Lavrov who congratulated the Greek minister on the assumption of his duties, according to a relevant announcement by the Russian Foreign ministry.
"During the discussion emphasis was placed on the mutual mood for the consistent promotion of cooperation at bilateral and international level. Issues were examined regarding how the upcoming Greek-Russian contacts will acquire a content and with the further perfection of their legal-institutional framework," the Russian ministry's announcement said.

According to diplomatic sources, the two ministers were to meet in Moscow initially on the 7th and then on the 5th of July, and following a mutual understanding they decided to transfer their first meeting to September, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.
