Deputy Environment, Energy and Climate Change Minister Yiannis Maniatis met on Friday with visiting International Trade Minister of Canada Peter Van Loan.

Deputy Environment, Energy and Climate Change Minister Yiannis Maniatis met on Friday with visiting International Trade Minister of Canada Peter Van Loan.

Their talks focused mainly on investment issues and particularly on Greece's mineral deposits. The Canadian minister referred to the facilitation of the interstate oil trade deriving from oil sands and slate from Alberta region in Canada, 10 percent of which is channeled to the European markets.

Maniatis said that the specific issues are already being studied by the relevant agencies and his ministry, adding that "The key to the development of the Canadian oil issue will be the result of an EU report on the implementation of the union's directive on the quality of the fuel".

The Greek official expressed his satisfaction with the improved cooperation with the Canadian government.
