Industrial production in Greece fell by 4.2 percent in October 2010 against October 2009, according to figures released on Friday by the independent Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT).

Industrial production in Greece fell by 4.2 percent in October 2010 against October 2009, according to figures released on Friday by the independent Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT).

The Production Index in Industry (IPI) in October 2010 compared with October 2009 recorded a fall of 4.2%. In October 2009, the annual rate of change of the IPI was -9.6%.

In the 10-month period from January 2010 to October 2010, the average rate of change of the IPI was -5.5%. In October 2009, the corresponding average rate of change of the IPI was -10.0%.

The IPI in October 2010, compared with October 2009, decreased by 4.2% due to the annual changes of the subindices of the industrial sections:

a. Mining and quarrying production fell by 13.0%.

b. Manufacturing production fell by 1.8%.

c. Electricity production fell by 9.7%.

d. Water supply production fell by 0.9%.

The IPI in the 10-month period January - October 2010, compared with the period January - October 2009, decreased by 5.5% due to the 10-month average rates of change of the sub-indices of the industrial sections:

a. Mining and quarrying production fell by 6.7%.

b. Manufacturing production fell by 4.6%.

c. Electricity production fell by 8.9%.

d. Water supply production rose by 0.9%.
