The annual military parade held on October 28 in Thessaloniki to mark Greece’s entry into the Second World War will be organized at a substantially reduced cost, Kathimerini understands.

The National Defense General Staff (GEETHA) has brought the cost of the parade down to 230,000 euros from more than 300,000.

The reduction will be achieved through limiting the number of troops that join the parade and ensuring that no soldiers or equipment are transported by air.

Last year, the October 28 and March 25 annual parades cost 435,000 euros but the government plans to limit the cost to 320,000 euros this year.

Last year, the parade in Thessaloniki was abandoned amid anti-austerity protests.
