KTEL inter-city buses operating from Thessaloniki suspended almost all their services on Monday due to financial problems.

KTEL inter-city buses operating from Thessaloniki suspended almost all their services on Monday due to financial problems.

Only the Athens-Thessaloniki line will be serviced along with trips to take pupils to local schools.

The managing director of KTEL Thessaloniki, Dimitris Margaritopoulos, said that the company barely had enough money to but fuel for the vehicles in circulation.

“We are exasperated,” he said. “We have reached our limits and cannot go on. We cover 5,000 kilometers a day and use 3,000 liters of diesel fuel,” he said, adding that the local authorities and other organizations owe the company money.

Last week, KTEL Thessaloniki reduced from 28 to 10 the number of routes it was servicing.
