Front-door boarding for bus passenger in scheme to fight fare dodging

A pilot scheme aimed at tackling fare dodging on Athens buses began on Monday, forcing passengers to board the vehicles via the front door.

The scheme applies to more than 50 routes that have been selected by transport authorities before being applied on all buses operating in the city.

Bus drivers said that the measure would impossible to enforce and would put them in direct conflict with passengers. They called for more points from which passengers can buy tickets and an increase in checks by ticket inspectors.
