The government will start advertising for positions at the new public broadcaster to replace ERT this week, with the aim of hiring 2,000 people to run the service.
Deputy Culture Minister Pantelis Kapsis, who is in charge of setting up the new broadcaster, said that the government is seeking to hire 500 employees straight away.
He said another 1,500 would be hired once ERT’s headquarters have been vacated by staff who are continuing to broadcast TV programs online in protest at the government’s decision to shut the service down.
Kapsis said most of the new hires would be staff who are already working at ERT, which has roughly 2,600 employees. Applications for jobs at the new broadcaster will be handled by the Finance Ministry.
