The Athens Doctors’ Association warned the public on Saturday to protect themselves from the sun and heat over the next few days, amid rising temperatures across the country.
The doctors advised people to avoid exposing themselves to the sun, to avoid physical exercise, to drink plenty of fluids and to eat small, frequent meals of non-fatty and low-sodium foods.
Those suffering from health problems or taking medication have been advised to keep in touch with their physicians.
Temperatures are expected to rise Monday and Tuesday as a heat wave hits the regions of Attica, Central Greece and Thessaly.
Temperatures are expected to reach 37-38 Celsius (99-100 Fahrenheit) on Monday and 39 C (102 F) on Tuesday but are set to start dropping as of Wednesday.
