Greek police data show 16 pct drop in crime in first 6 months of year

The number of robberies recorded in Attica in the first six months of this year was down 16 percent to 1,934 from the same period last year, when 2,301 robberies were recorded, according to statistics made public by the police on Monday which showed a general slump in crime.

The number of homicides nationwide dropped by 17.6 percent, to 70 from 85 in the first half of last year, according to police figures.

Illegal immigration is down too, according to police statistics which show that 19,360 undocumented migrants were detained at the country’s borders in the first six months of this year compared to 44,602 in the same period in 2012, a drop of 56.6 percent.
