Officials at the Municipality of Amfikleia in central Greece are to meet with Fthiotida regional authorities and experts from the Organization of Antiseismic Planning and Protection at the town hall on Tuesday afternoon to discuss a spike in seismic activity in the area.

The meeting was called after four moderate quakes measuring between 4.2 and 4.8 on the Richter scale shook the area north on Mount Parnassos on Monday and Tuesday. The quakes were felt in Athens – some 170 kilometers from the epicenter – as well as in other parts of the country.

The quakes come after a larger tremor, measuring 5.1 Richter, shook the region in August, destroying a number of old rural homes. Over 1,300 aftershocks have been recorded since, with six measuring above 4 on the Richter scale.
